History

Cochrane takes its name from Senator Matthew Hendry Cochrane, who established Western Canada's first large scale ranching operation in the area in the late 1800's. Today Cochrane is a vibrant community of over 14,000 residents. This small town, which officially became a village in 1903, will be celebrating its centennial this year. Many different activities are planned, including a visit by the RCMP Musical Ride at the Cochrane Ranch on July 9th, 2005. For more information on the centennial planning, please see the Town of Cochrane's web site here.
