History

Cochrane takes its name from Senator Matthew Hendry Cochrane, who established Western Canada's first large scale ranching operation in the area in the late 1800's. Today Cochrane is a vibrant community of over 14,000 residents. This small town, which officially became a village in 1903, will be celebrating its centennial this year. Many different activities are planned, including a visit by the RCMP Musical Ride at the Cochrane Ranch on July 9th, 2005. For more information on the centennial planning, please see the Town of Cochrane's web site here. www.townofcochrane.com
